I'd like to see hours go by more slowly
procrastinating slowness & what i did yesterday instead 😅
I've been reading some of my first substack posts. I had forgotten what I wrote, and it's nice to read what was in my mind back then. I want to write like I did again, just writing about what's in my mind and from the pure passion and interest in the things that are in my mind.
This is what I wrote this Wednesday.
Slow evenings ☯︎
I love slow mornings, but I need slow evenings too. I realized that last night, when I went to sleep because it was late, not because I was tired. My mind was still in the thing I was doing before watching Netflix1. It was still active, not relaxed, and thoughts and ideas kept coming.
I thought about how I've always felt like I'm more creative in the night, I've defined myself as a night owl. But maybe it's been like that because of the way I've set up my days. I love slow mornings, I don't like rushing into things, or rather, I try not to do it. Because I want to be more mindful of what I’m doing during the day, so that the day doesn't fly by. So I start the day taking it slow. Some days lately, I started my mornings with yoga, for example.
But once I start doing things, the time does fly by. And maybe it's just how I am, or it's just flow state. And although I'd like to see hours go by more slowly, I do love being in flow state, that's where I come alive the most. But, inevitably, I end the day in that yang space, and it isn't until it's too late that I think it's time to go yin. I lack a conscious phase between action and pause. So that I can go to bed ready for sleep, instead of lying there trying to unwind and relax at 00:32.
In the past, I've set up times to stop yang-ing and unwind, but as much as I need willpower to do things I don't want to do, I also struggle stopping things I want to do. If setting a time would work, I could have that unwinding phase before watching Netflix, maybe ⌘C the morning yoga session and ⌘V it into the evening.
What I was doing ✧
Yesterday, what I was doing before watching Netflix is editing a boost for Substack.
If you're not familiar with the Arc browser2, you'll have no idea what I'm talking about. A boost is a feature that lets you change the look of websites on the browser. Some people use them to customize the look, make it prettier, others to have a cleaner look, or even to remove distractions from sites like YouTube. It's a really cool thing that I've explored in the past, too. Below is an example on the Wikipedia and here are more examples by the Arc community.
Anyway! Yesterday I was playing around with a Boost on the Substack site. I felt like the notes page, since it's mainly made for the phone, isn't that great on Desktop, so I changed the width of notes, I made the text bigger, etc. And I also changed the color & font just for fun. If you have the Arc browser, you can have it too! It's not perfect, but works for me, and it might work for you!
The same day last week’s post came out, I cut my hair length a bit more!! hahaha🤭
I made some more “branding” assets for the new newsletter, as you can see in this post!
The last semester of my degree is approaching (it starts next week!) and I’ll work on the bachelor thesis. Still need to choose a topic, though, agghhh!!
Inspired by Laurel Schwulst and her Energy spheres project, I’m started working on a silly project, creating a tool to make circle gradients & export them. It’s not done yet & I might write about it next week, but here’s a peek:
Do you try to have slow mornings? And evenings?
How do you balance action and energy with rest and recovery?
Do you have the Arc Browser? Do you currently use any boosts? lmk!
Should I write about my bachelor thesis next week too?
“You need a website, not another social media account to manage” by Seth Werkheiser on Substack. If you liked my post about the fact that you need to make a personal website, you’ll like this too.
Good Enough have a very cool website, and you can draw something that their thermal printer will print in their office (they’ll show you your drawing print live!)
Carlota’s “yo tampoco sé qué hago en tinder” on Substack.
“How To Get Your Childhood Brain Back” by Shameless Nerd on YouTube.
“What if we made a camera that sees in reverse?” by Stuff Made Here on YouTube.
Thank you for reading me !
I’m glad to be back on here, I’m slowly getting back to the writing routine I had back when I started this, and it’s great! <3
My boyfriend and I have the routine of watching Netflix before going to sleep.
If you use this link, I think I could get a cool icon for the app or something. I didn’t wanna hide that.
