Hi!!!
(uhm… let's pretend it hasn't been literal months, thank youuu)
Do you know what a prop stylist is?
Before I started watching Paige Wassel’s YouTube channel, I didn’t really think about that as a profession. Like yeah probably in the back of my mind I when seeing some kind of promotional image of something buyable I knew someone had to arrange that, but I was unaware of ✨prop styling✨ ’s existence as a profession.
Sorry I went on about it but did not say what it is. This is what Google says:
I should’ve been more specific. I’m most only in love with the prop styling profession inside interior design.
Did you ever encounter a brand that you just love, but don’t really have any reason other than the images on their website? Like, their brand identity is good, but nothing out of the ordinary that would make you follow the brand like a cult. Their products are nice too, but it’s the style that captivates you??
You might be sitting there like no that has never happened lol what are you on about, but I don’t want to rewrite the whole paragraph above, and I’ve decided 5 min ago that this newsletter is going to be easy to keep and if I keep perfecting every sentence, I won’t actually write. Do you relate, fellow perfectionists? You might be sitting there like no that has nev- Wait, I fell on a loop. Where were we???
Ah, yes. Well, that happens to me with ZARA HOME. I hate that it’s a big brand and I hate that it’s part of an even bigger giant massive group of big enterprise big business with barely no ethics in their production or anything for that matter. But aaarghh they have good taste. They have great products, and they also make them work so well in their photography.
The locations they shoot at, the props they use, the product combos they make…
I love that and I now want to do that.
And so I did that.
As a hobby.
On my laptop.
Hahaha. Underwhelming?
Anyway. Check out the ∼art∼
And so then I thought wooooah is “event decorator” a thing?? I want to do that!!! I want to decorate tables for events!!
And then I thought girl be realistic you have a hundred hobbies you once wanted to make a living with and also does that even exist? And then remembered I made this newsletter for that very reason, and the circle is closing and here we are!!! I find this funny and ridiculous and mildly slightly just a little dumb as hell.
But we shall go on, and I want to go on with the reasons why I think I would love to be a prop stylist or event decorator or whatever.
I could shop things and not care too much about the fact I’m spending money because I’m not spending money, the client is. There’s still a budget, but the point stands.
I’d get the fun times of styling without having to commit to a style that I’d have to live with and maybe get sick of, if it were in my space.
Which in turn allows the decorating to be more limitless, more risky and more BOLD. Right where the fun’s at.
Do you need more reasons? I don’t need more reasons.
Anywayy!!!
Did you know there was such a specific profession as prop styling?
Would you love to be one too?
Which plate do you like the most in the second moodboard?
