heyy,
Just came back yesterday (Monday) from a wonderful road trip in Normandy.
It was just a week and a day, but it felt longer, we did so much, saw so much, and I switched off work completely for the first time in a long while. So it does feel a bit weird to be back to normal life, I guess.
The last issue was posted while I was on the trip, so I didn’t give much attention to it, other than just posting a story with the link. But I did notice that every new post got fewer views than the previous one. I did think, maybe delusionally, that every new post would get more views?
Well it’s not happening, and while I’m going to continue writing them, because I set the objective and told myself that I’d be consistent no matter what, I do wonder, does anyone even read the posts? Or do they just open and close? Am I talking into the void? I hope at least one person does read them haha
Either way, writing this blog/newsletter is also helpful for me, even if no one read. Cause it’s a way to reflect and be vulnerable about this journey, and think out loud to see everything more clearly. Kinda like a journal.
But, idk, let’s do a test, if you’re reading, comment this emoji 🥐, or, you know, any other one.
Alphabet superset
So today I opened the laptop after a week and for some reason photoshop opened, and with it a notice that said the licence has expired (the licence is with uni). I was planning on doing the last week’s (b-week) and this week’s (c-week) designs for the Alphabet Superset challenge both this week, but with no Photoshop I won’t be able to :|
For now, I only achieved one week of the challenge, off to a great start 😅 BUT! I can draw the illustrations this week at least, so I’ll be doing that and sharing it. I’ll likely have Photoshop back next week, when the new semester starts. And then I can complete the designs.
Recent designs
I designed three posters before going on the trip, to maybe post on Instagram while there (but then once there I could not be bothered to do it). Here they are:
👆🏼 I had taken pictures from some pages in my sketchbook and thought this one page would work for the poster composition I had in mind. Did not have ideas for the text, though, so I just wrote what it literally was. I’m pretty happy with the result.
👆🏼 For these two posters, I took the thoughts I recently had to come up with the text. Pretty dumb and random haha. I just played around in Photoshop with my limited skills + a couple YouTube tutorials and yeah. There’s the result.
…especially if you like art on your walls.
You can download art from many artists from the past for free and in high-res. They’re in the public domain, cause the artists passed away long ago. So you can download them, print them, frame them and hang them on your walls. Like, don’t pay €30+ for a print that’s public domain!!!! Print it yourself or get it printed for you for a more reasonable price.
There are many sites where you can download them, and many museum websites have them too!! 👇🏼
I also created a Pinterest board a bit ago with some art I’d like to print.
We visited Claude Monet’s house, one of my favourite painters, while in Normandy, and it has made me want to print and frame one of his paintings even more. Maybe one of his paintings in Étretat as a memory of the trip 🤔
Have you been to Normandy?
Are you doing the Alphabet Superset challenge? How’s it going?
Do you also get tagged in these scam ig posts saying you won something?
This is it for the week!
Subscribe if you aren’t already subscribed and see ya next week!
Thanks for reading <3
love the postersssss
I live relatively close to Normandy but I’ve not been yet, it’s on my list. Hopefully I’ll get there some time soon. Also, I love the posters and your skills are definitely not limited, so well done.
Also, I just wanted to say to not worry about stats and numbers. Write from the bottom of your heart and write well and everything else will follow naturally. I remember when Substack didn’t used to blast you with stats as soon as you open the dashboard and it was pleasant, you didn’t have to see any numbers if you didn’t want to, but that changed. So my humble advice to you is don’t look, ignore the stats. Focus on all of the other positive things your writing and newsletter is bringing you <3
